Disney Cruise Line page on Facebook is the latest scam to trick guests

We’ve seen them all over Facebook for free trip giveaways to Walt Disney World and Disneyland, but now they’re heading out to sea. Doctor Disney reader Steve B sent in word that a Disney Cruise Line scam has made its way to Facebook, and the signs are there to show it is a fake.

Disney Cruise Lines Fun 2013 is up and ready for everyone to share their pics and info and give you a free cruise on them.

Only, it’s not real. The page was just created on Sept. 7, 2013, and in all reality, the Disney Cruise Line already has an official page. Why on earth would they make another one for a giveaway?

The tricky part here is that the scam page went ahead and copied the verified DCL page so that they would look exactly like it. This is how they are trying to trick everyone into thinking they are legit, but don’t fall for it.

Please please please give the heads-up to everyone you know about these pages. They are doing nothing but trying to get access to your Facebook profile page and information.

Here are some things to look for on Facebook to figure out if the contest is legit or not:

• Check the actual name of the page and the URL – Usually there are misspellings or added punctuation since they are not “official.”
• Look at the date founded for the page.
• Look to see if the page has actually posted anything else at all. If they haven’t, it’s a fake.
• Check to see the contest rules. If they don’t have any, it’s a fake.
• Ask yourself, is The Walt Disney Company actually sponsoring this giveaway? If not, then there is a 99.99% chance that it is a scam. You will know if Disney is behind it because there will be all kinds of rules, regulations, and disclaimers.
