The expansion at Disney’s Hollywood Studios appears to be continuing forward as another closure appears to be coming. It seems as if the character meet-and-greets at The Magic of Disney Animation will no longer be in operation after July 12, 2015.
UPDATE #2:
As of July 12, 2015, all of The Magic of Disney Animation will be closing including:
- Meet-and-Greets
- Interactive exhibits
- Disney characters brought to life Starring Mushu
- The Animation Academy
UPDATE per a DHS Cast Member:
“The Animation building will be going down for a refurb starting July 12th. Hiro and Baymax are leaving, Minnie is moving back to her former location at Centerstage and for the time being Mickey is moving to Darth Vader’s location for this past Star Wars Weekends. Disney Jr characters will be staying in the same spot. The drawing class and Animation film will be going down for the refurb as well. We were all told this morning.”
This is only for the character meet-and-greets in the location, two of which will be moved.
Mickey Mouse is expected to move to an area near Studio Catering which is normally used for Darth Vader meet-and-greets during Star Wars Weekends. This is not to be Mickey’s permanent location as one will be built at the Disney Junior area.
Minnie Mouse will be relocating to right in front of the Great Movie Ride.
Hiro and Baymax’s meet-and-greet will finally be ending after having been extended numerous months from its original expected closure.
Now, this closure has been indicated by the My Disney Experience app, but there is no official word from Disney. There’s also no word on when/if the Animation Academy and art store in The Magic of Disney Animation will be closing.
This all has the possibility of changing as they are rumors at this time, and will be until Disney gives the official word.
