Official Dates Revealed For Long Pirates Of The Caribbean Refurb Later This Year

pirates of the caribbean refurbA little over a month ago, it was reported that Pirates of the Caribbean would be shutting down for a very long refurbishment later this year. Well, Disney has finally confirmed that to be coming and it won’t be as long as first thought, but those at Walt Disney World this summer will be without.

Pirates of the Caribbean has now been officially added to the Walt Disney World Refurbishment Schedule, and it will be closing on May 11, 2015. It’s going to be closed straight through the summer and through Sept. 25, 2015.

That leaves Guests with a tentative reopening date of Sept. 26, 2015.

It is commonly known that the new boats put in about a year ago have caused some issues as they’ve been taking on water and also not fitting so well into the waterways. Some have even caused damage.

WDWNT reports that due to safety concerns, that is the reasoning for the closure at this time of Pirates of the Caribbean. They are wondering, as we here at Doctor Disney are as well, if the new and rumored scene changes are coming during this refurb or later.

As last reported, any of these following issues could be addressed:

The audio-animatronics have often broken down. Boats have taken on water. The mist and Blackbeard effect in the opening cave hasn’t worked regularly in months. That’s not even counting the incident with the guest losing some fingertips and the back rows of boats being roped off often.

Please remember that dates are subject to change and can do so without any notice.

  1. Why would they do this in the summer when people are desperate for the ride to get out of the extreme summer heat??? Why not wait till September when it cools off to start refurbishments on Pirates of the Caribbean! Bummer for me, that is one of my favorites, and I will be there in late august :o(

    • Well, it’s already hitting 88 degrees in Orlando and it’s only February so it’s pretty much hot here for 9-10 months of the year. It doesn’t really cool off in September or even October much. And if it is being done for safety reasons and other such things, then it’s something that needs to be done.
