Haunted Mansion Closing For Refurbishment In Late 2014

Haunted Mansion 2014 refurbishmentWith news just revealed of the Haunted Mansion gift shop’s opening pushed back; guests coming to the Magic Kingdom in December won’t be very happy. The Haunted Mansion itself is going to be under refurbishment as well and closed for close to three weeks.

The Haunted Mansion itself will be closing on Dec. 1, 2014, and is scheduled to be closed through Dec. 19, 2014.

As of now, the Haunted Mansion has a tentative reopening date of Dec. 20, 2014.

It is expected that a new on-ride photo system is being put into the Haunted Mansion, but that has yet to be totally confirmed.

Should that be the case, then that would go hand-in-hand with the Haunted Mansion gift shop which is now scheduled to open on New Year’s Day.

A source of mine states that the Haunted Mansion will also be getting the once (or twice) over during the refurbishment. Things will be tidied up (more cobwebs) and paint will be touched up and all will be made spookier.

No changes are expected, but who knows?

Please remember that dates are subject to change and can happen without any notice.

  1. Nnnnoooo I will be there the 7th and this is one of my favorite rides

  2. On thing I notice in the ride is there is like a sheer netting in front of the areas that you have to past like the Grand ballroom and the cemetery, but what I sadly notice that some guest toss (or even spit) at those at at times you can see it 🙁 so I hope they are able to get that cleaned up also.

I’m starting to cross my fingers now that this magically reopen a few days early. We head out on the 19th. We learned our lesson two years ago that the Saturday before Christmas is when the crazy starts.

  4. I hope it will be open by next June; that’s when I’m taking my little sister there for her 21st birthday gift! About seven years ago (the last time she went) it was also closed, and she was really bummed she never got a chance to ride!

  5. The infrastructure for the photo system is already in place. It was installed when they put in the “upgraded” CGI Hitchhiking Ghosts and they have already conducted some Magicband testing with it awhile back. The refurbishment will cover replacing the moving belt in the load area, which is in poor condition, some light maintenance and general sprucing up. Nothing major is expected to change, and the on-ride photo system will probably be rolled out sometime down the road, as I’m sure there are still kinks to roll out. As it is, the ghosts tend to be uncooperative much more frequently than in their previous incarnation, so I am sure adding a photo element to it all would lead to bigger headaches.

  6. Just spoke with disney and haunted mansion is not on their lists for refurb.

  7. We were at haunted mansion yesterday, Monday, 1-26-2014. Late afternoon, just got to the “elevator”, and an employee ran up from behind and yelled, the ride is closed every one exit to the right. We were ushered out through the side door employees were running around frantically and whispering to each other, any ideas about what may have happened?
