Magic Kingdom’s Rope Drop Procedures Changed Due to Anna and Elsa

Anna and Elsa Rope DropAs we’ve all seen while Anna and Elsa were at Epcot and now since moving to Princess Fairytale Hall in the Magic Kingdom, the duo is extremely popular. In the interest of safety, their popularity has actually caused a change in rope drop procedures at the Magic Kingdom.

That’s right, the iconic rope drop at the Magic Kingdom – which has seen changes before – is changing yet again.

Guests now won’t be able to sprint down Main Street U.S.A. in an attempt to get to the Cinderella Castle rope drop first. Cast Members are going to slowly walk guests down Main Street while holding a rope up and leading them to Fantasyland.

Guests trying to get to rope drop first have been literally sprinting down Main Street, weaving in and out of people, cutting through stores and restaurants, and even pushing at times.

Disney does not want any of that, of course, and certainly doesn’t want anyone ending up injured.

Once through the front of the park gates of the Magic Kingdom, guests will be led slowly by Cast Members with a rope and to rope drop for Fantasyland.

Rope drops for other lands are expected to remain in place as well, and guests can cut off in those directions once near the end of Main Street.

For those that don’t have FASTPass+ reservations to see Anna and Elsa at princess Fairytale Hall have been dealing with wait times that often exceed five or six hours.

Disney has also recently put a limit on “Frozen” merchandise that says guests may only purchase up to five identical items per person.

Sources have told me that the changes are immediate or happening sometime in the next couple of days.

I was able to the Keys to the Kingdom tour in April & had the pleasure of watching people sprint, in a safe spot of course. I am happy I was able to see that now that they are changing it.

  2. Why wont they just put a meet and greet for them in every park til the frozen craze dies down a little??????

  3. Here is a better idea… Why not just add a wall and do a double of the two!!! Twice the charcters!? They do it at DL in the Princess Fantasy Faire. It would really lessen the wait time down and make the line go a lot faster….. When will Disney catch on to this?

  4. I think there should be two meet and greet areas at MK for the Frozen characters. One line, but some people go left and meet Anna and Elsa in one room other people go right and meet them in a second, separate room. The kids won’t realize the characters are duplicated, but the parents will be thrilled! Disney can do anything!

A core principle of Disney success is retaining character integrity. What you suggested would be nice, but Elsa and Anna can’t be in more than one place at once, that’s impossible!

      • That sounds great in theory, but Aurora and Cinderella are meeting folks in Fairytale Hall while also greeting them steps away at CRT. Seems witht he demand, the running, the ridiculous wait times they could justify multiple meet and greets, making a magical day for kids who want to meet them.

We’re going to be at the Cinderella breakfast that morning so we will be in before the park opens. Are we able to leave the breakfast at 9am and head streight to E&A or do we have to wait in some kind of line first to get to them?

    • Being in the park before it opens does not mean access to Anna and Elsa or any other attractions unless it is for Extra Magic Hours. You can leave your breakfast whenever you wish, but you cannot get to Princess Fairytale Hall before it opens and that means for all guests.

      • We have 8:10a ADR’s at Crystal Palace – would we be able to eat and then get in line for the FantasyLand rope drop ? Where is the drop from to get into NFL?

        • That would really be rushing your breakfast if you were to get to 9:00 a.m. rope drop. For getting into Fantasyland, it happens through Cinderella Castle as the closest spots to NFL. It’s possible you can do it, but you’d be going through breakfast very quickly.

          • I checked every 15 minutes or so and finally found FP’s for the day we arrive. Had to find them 1-by-1 and the 4 of us are pretty much close together apart for my husband whose window starts 10 mins after my youngest daughter’s window ends. So myself and my daughters will go in before hers ends and then I guess if they won’t let him in 10 mins early, we’ll wait in line and let people pass us by until he’s able to join us in line. Not perfect but we’ll take it. We weren’t planning on going to the parks the first day but it’s worth the extra $44 to add on the extra ticket day so that we can enjoy our breakfast at Crystal Palace on Monday! Phew!!!!!
