Update on Disney Monorail downtime for Express and Resort Beams

Disney MonorailThe Walt Disney World Monorail system has been dealing with a refurbishment since near the end of January, and it’s still going to continue for a bit longer.

Got an update from Disney today that there are still “a few weeks” left in the refurbishment schedule.

Even though originally scheduled to reopen at the end of March, it appears as if the Disney Monorail refurbishment won’t be entirely complete until around mid-April, 2014.

The Disney Monorail – Express and Resort beams – have been not operating everyday from 11:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. This has obviously caused some issues with crowds, but extra buses and boats are running during these times.

Disney is enhancing the entire system with making sure the beams are properly safe and in working order while also putting in a brand new fiber-optic system for the Disney Mon0rails.

Disney has also announced that the Epcot Monorail track will be getting the same treatment in the future, but there has not yet been a scheduled time for that refurbishment.

So for now, anyone visiting Walt Disney World within the next three to four weeks, prepare for the Disney Monorail – Express and Resort beams – to be severely limited during the day. If you’re looking to get to Magic Kingdom, your best bet is to arrive early and stay later.

Ferry lines at the Transportation & Ticket Center have been organized well, but long lines can’t be helped.
