Easter Eggs from ‘Toy Story of Terror’

Toy Story of TerrorLast night, “Toy Story of Terror” thrilled, frightened, and cracked up audiences as they watched the Pixar/Disney half-hour special and it was phenomenal.

This was actually one of the best Pixar releases I’ve ever seen as it had me laughing for almost the full 30 minutes, and we can only hope that more of these are to come.  With that, there was more to the Halloween special than just the content itself.

Pixar and Disney did put some Easter Eggs / hidden items into the half-hour special so let’s check out some of them.

~ Within the first couple of minutes, we see the toys in the trunk of the car watching a movie. They are watching an old vampire movie and a girl is running through a cemetery. Director Angus Maclane has said that the tombstones all belong to dead Pixar characters. Kind of hard to see, but let me know who you find. The list is as follows:

  • Coral the clownfish (“Finding Nemo”)
  • Gusteau (“Ratatouille”)
  • Paladino “Gazerbeam” (“The Incredibles”) – The gravestone reads, “A public servant with a unique vision.”

Toy Story of Terror~ Once the camera pans outside of the car, the license plate on the car has a holder that shows one of our favorite restaurants…Pizza Planet.

~ The famed restaurant does show up again as the well-known delivery truck is in the motel owner’s calendar of “Iguanas of the Month.” It is sitting next to his computer.

~ Pixar loves to hint at their next movies and that is what they do with the artwork above the motel beds as they point to “The Good Dinosaur.”

There are also some “horror movie” Easter Eggs included such as:

~ In the opening scene, the vampire says, “They’re coming to get you, Betsy.” That is a play of the line “They’re coming to get you, Barbara,” from “Night of the Living Dead.”

~ The Sleep Well Hotel is obviously a play on “Psycho.”

~ Bonnie and her mom get a hotel key that is similar to the key for room 237 in “The Shining.”

  1. Phyllis Jennings says

I love Disney “hidden objects” whether it is hidden Mickey’s in the architecture or these hidden character references in the show. I’m going home to watch my DVR with this list of hidden items in hand. Where do you get this great “inside” info?

  2. what about the first scene in grave yard the girl that is running and falls onto the grave stone looks like the exact same motions as snow white when the hunter cases her and she trips and falls onto the rock ..just my thought

  3. I guess I am the only one who noticed the reference to Wall-E when the Ship It driver walks out of the motel on the right door there is a big B&L card plus sticker. Also the whole mini movie takes place in Temple AZ by evidence of the shipping sticker when Ron is packing up Woody.
