The never-ending rumors about Cars Land and Star Wars Land coming to South Florida are heating up again.
Last year, there were huge rumors that Cars Land would be heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but Disney squashed those.
This year, there were plenty of rumors that George Lucas and Disney would make an announcement regarding a possible Star Wars Land on “May the Fourth Be With You.” When that didn’t happen, it was thought that an announcement would come during the month-long of Star Wars Weekends…and that didn’t happen either.
Now, one report has shown up from Theme Park Insider, and all of a sudden, numerous reports are popping up all over the place.
While Disney has still confirmed NOTHING in regards to any changes coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios any time soon, the rumors are going to continue to be there until something is done.
Could these things happen? Yes, they definitely could…but until Disney makes the official announcement…expect nothing. We all know they like to change their minds a lot too.
Breaking it down though, this is the most extensive the rumors have gotten so far and here is the gist of them all:
- Cars Land will replace Lights, Motor, Action and Catastrophe Canyon
- Pixar Place would be extended to take over the Backlot Studio Tour
- Star Wars Land would be put in on either side of Star Tours and take out the Muppets area and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play area.
- OR…Star Wars Land could go in the opposite direction of Star Tours and take over the Backlot Express Restaurant and Indiana Jones Stunt Show
Word is that it is a five-year project with completion coming in 2018.
Now, here is the Doctor Disney take on this supposed “greenlight” that has been allegedly been given to George Kalogridis and the rest of the crew.
1.) Disney has already said they don’t want to have Cars Land in WDW because they don’t want the same things in both US parks. That makes perfect sense. And while Disney could put a different version of Cars Land in DHS; that still doesn’t mean it’s happening yet.
2.) How can things be so “greenlit” when all that’s being reported are “these are the logical possibilities” for Star Wars Land? If things were so concrete, wouldn’t there be more solid information than Star Wars Land can go here or here or there or over here or over there?
3.) Indiana Jones and Lights, Motor, Action both are very popular attractions and MuppetVision 3D is even more so. Taking out one? Ok, that’s possible. Taking out two? Highly unlikely. Taking out all three? Not a chance.
4.) I could see Backlot Tour being taken out because it has lost a huge amount of guest traffic, but that’s not enough room for either of the two proposed big land. Pixar Place extension? Quite possible.
5.) DHS has so much room that it is ridiculous. There is a huge portion of the Backlot Tour that the attraction doesn’t even go to anymore (remember the street with the “Golden Girls” house?). There is also a lot of room behind the Beauty and the Beast stage and also between Tower of Tower and Rock ‘N Rollercoaster.
Mind you, these are all my thoughts and opinions on the rumors that are being thrown around. They could all happen or none of them could happen or just some of them could become reality.
These are simply the new rumors that have emerged and how I feel about them possibly happening. No matter what, if they all come true…I’d honestly miss Indy, Backlot, and especially MuppetVision.
