Downtown Disney expansion and name change to Disney Springs confirmed

The public announcement of Downtown Disney’s expansion and name change to Disney Springs was pushed back due to bad weather on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, but news was still confirmed to Cast Members. It is expected the media announcement will be later this week, but the following was still confirmed to Cast Members:

  • Downtown Disney will have its name changed to “Disney Springs.”
  • Two parking garages will be built with one on the marketplace side and the other near Cirque du Soleil on Disney’s Westside.
  • Theming for Disney Springs will be the beautiful old Florida feel with lots of shades and water features.
  • Many new restaurants and shops will be added. Most of them will be brand new to the Orlando area. No specific names, brands, or vendors at this time.
  • World of Disney is set to be expanded and become even bigger.
  • Captain Jacks Restaurant will close down but Cast Members will be relocated.
  • There will be a walkway bridge built from TREX to the Rainforest Cafe.

No word yet on when construction will begin exactly, but that news will surely come later this week or soon after.
