Splash Mountain 2014 refurbishment extended by almost two months

Splash Mountain refurbishmentSplash Mountain’s annual refurbishment was just announced last week, and it was revealed that it would happen during the month of January at the Magic Kingdom. Well, some guests may start double-thinking their travel dates because it was just severely extended.

The old dates for Splash Mountain’s refurbishment had it closing on Jan. 6, 2014, and tentatively reopening on Jan. 31, 2014.

Now, Splash Mountain will still be closing for refurbishment on Jan. 6, 2014, but now it won’t be reopening until mid-March.

New dates:

  • Closing: Jan. 6, 2014
  • Reopening (tentative): March 22, 2013

As said, be prepared because this takes one of the major mountains out of the attraction line-up for almost a full three months. There is no exact word on what will be done to Splash Mountain, but it is obvious that it’s going to be extensive.

There has also been no word of a remodel or redoing the attraction so it will most likely still just be technical and beautifying it.

Comments

  1. Could Splash Mountain reopen earlier in March if all goes well with the rehab?

  2. Another disappointment for us this year. We travel to DW every year for a week sometime between New Years and Easter. The last three years in a row Splash Mountain, our family’s favorite ride will not be running during our stay! Bad luck or poor management ? When you are traveling long distances, and need to plan several months ahead how do you avoid this? Maybe skip next year!

    • The thing is, Splash Mountain has become almost synonymous with closing for the first month to three months of each year for refurbishment. It’s just the way things have gone for years now. Such a large attraction and one that has multiple drops and is almost fully in water requires a lot of upkeep. This is Disney’s downtime each year so it is when the refurbs are almost always scheduled.

  3. I guess the reason why they close around jan-march its because its the “coldest” days here in Florida so people dont want to get wet :p
